If fear, intrusive thoughts, trauma or persistent alarm has made your world smaller, this is for you.

You may wake already checking how you feel. A sensation appears, and within seconds you are monitoring it, questioning it, or trying to make it stop.

You might avoid places, search endlessly for reassurance, rehearse conversations, fear being alone, or wonder why you cannot simply think your way out of it. Even during calm moments, part of you may be waiting for the thought, sensation, fear or alarm to return.

Your day becomes organised around avoiding the alarm. You are tired of therapies, techniques, worksheets, relaxation, and breathing drills becoming futile daily tasks.

The Goal

The goal is not to spend your life managing symptoms. It is for fear and persistent alarm to stop managing your life.

Imagine noticing a sensation without immediately fearing it.

Leaving home without calculating how quickly you could return.

Going through an ordinary day without monitoring and managing your condition being the main event.

Making room for your experience.

Every condition has its own profound impact on daily life. STAND DOWN recognises the distinct exhaustion of OCD, the hypervigilance of PTSD, the shrinking world of agoraphobia, the intense physical symptoms of panic disorder, and the quiet suffering of health anxiety, social anxiety, emetophobia, and phobias.

While these conditions are not identical, they are often sustained by a shared state of persistent alarm. By addressing the root mechanism, the broader destination becomes clear: total balance and wellbeing.

The Programme

An elegant, continuous path to recovery.

STAND DOWN asks you to listen from the beginning, in order. The change comes from understanding the mechanism, not from performing an exercise correctly.

No worksheets

Nothing to practise, journal, or track. No mood scores, streaks, or breathing drills.

No homework

You don’t have to perform anything while you listen. Just lie back and absorb the understanding.

Listen at your own pace

An unfolding audio journey that remembers where you left off. Move forward when you feel ready.

More than 30 years of research and practice.

Chuck draws on a deep understanding of the physiology, psychology, neurology, and endocrinology involved in anxiety-related conditions.

The institute behind STAND DOWN

A research-led organisation focused on anxiety recovery.

STAND DOWN comes from the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology, established in 1996 to develop and deliver Charles Linden’s recovery methodology internationally.

The Institute was formerly known as the Charles Linden Institute. Its published account says the name changed to reflect Applied Psychophysiology as a distinct professional discipline, while the organisation, methodology, research, and outcomes remained continuous.

What the Institute has built

Its work includes a published neurobiological theory of anxiety recovery, a formal position statement on Applied Psychophysiology, and a research and practitioner network dedicated to anxiety-condition recovery.

STAND DOWN distils that body of work into a private listening programme—designed to build understanding of the alarm response rather than add another layer of coping tasks.
